Workshops / training

We provide in-depth, practical training delivered through active restoration projects, research, partnerships, and system deployments. Our approach is hands-on and collaborative: we work alongside clients, researchers, collaborators, and practitioners to develop the skills, confidence, and technical understanding required to deliver effective coral restoration and applied research at scale.

Our expertise is applied directly within day-to-day operations and real project conditions, ensuring that learning is immediately relevant and actionable. This approach supports teams to adapt methods, resolve challenges, and refine practices as projects evolve, building long-term capability rather than short-term instruction.

Every restoration initiative operates within a unique ecological, logistical, and organisational context. For this reason, we provide project-specific training and technical support tailored to the needs of each partner and client.

Support may include onboarding and optimisation of coral spawning and rearing systems, refining husbandry and operational workflows, or troubleshooting challenges encountered during spawning, larval rearing, settlement, and outplanting. By aligning our expertise closely with project objectives and operational realities, we help ensure restoration efforts are efficient, resilient, and capable of delivering lasting ecological outcomes.

Core principles of reef restoration

We support partners and clients in applying the key principles that underpin effective reef restoration, including site selection, species suitability, risk management, and scaling strategies. This guidance helps ensure restoration efforts are scientifically robust, operationally viable, and resilient to future environmental change.

Ex situ coral spawning and rearing

We provide hands-on guidance across the full ex situ spawning process, from gamete collection and fertilisation through larval rearing, settlement, and early juvenile care. Support is closely aligned with the operation of our coral spawning systems, with a focus on system optimisation, timing, contamination control, and troubleshooting to maximise success rates.

Broodstock selection, thermal resilience, and selective breeding

We advise on broodstock selection strategies that prioritise thermal tolerance, genetic diversity, and long-term resilience. This includes selective breeding approaches, assisted gene migration concepts, and practical considerations for integrating resilience-focused strategies into restoration pipelines.

In situ spawning and post-settlement survival

We provide guidance on in situ spawning and settlement techniques, including deployment strategies and methods to improve early post-settlement survival. This includes approaches to reducing mortality and enhancing recruitment success under field conditions.

Coral disease and parasite management

We work with teams to identify, prevent, and manage coral diseases and parasites in both broodstock and juvenile systems. Emphasis is placed on preventative husbandry, biosecurity, early detection, and practical treatment approaches that minimise losses and protect long-term stock health.

Water chemistry management

We support the monitoring and management of critical water chemistry parameters, including temperature, alkalinity, nutrients, and trace elements. Maintaining stable and appropriate conditions is essential for coral health, reproductive success, and juvenile growth, and forms a core component of our technical support.

Live-food culturing

We provide practical guidance on establishing, maintaining, and scaling live-food cultures required for larval and juvenile stages. This includes system setup, maintenance protocols, and quality control to ensure consistent nutritional supply.

Juvenile feeding regimes

We support the development of feeding regimes tailored to juvenile life stages and system conditions, helping optimise growth rates, skeletal development, and early survival through informed nutritional strategies.

Our approach is focused on building lasting technical capability within partner organisations and client teams. By working collaboratively and supporting projects as they are delivered, we help ensure expertise is retained, adapted, and applied over the long term — strengthening restoration outcomes well beyond individual spawning events or project phases.
