Coral reefs are among the planet’s most valuable and vulnerable ecosystems. At Coral Spawning International (CSI), we believe lasting reef recovery depends on collaboration - bringing science, technology, and local leadership together to create solutions that can scale. Our partnership with Nature Seychelles reflects that belief in action.

Working at the Assisted Recovery of Corals (ARC) facility on Praslin Island, CSI supports the development of coral restoration strategies grounded in coral reproduction and genetic diversity.

Together, we helped establish the Western Indian Ocean’s first land-based coral spawning laboratory—expanding restoration beyond coral gardening and enabling controlled coral spawning and larval rearing as part of an active conservation program. This approach strengthens the resilience of restored reefs and opens new pathways for restoration across the region.

Effective restoration depends on understanding what works—and why. That’s why imaging and monitoring are central to the collaboration.

Using advanced visual tools, the program documents coral spawning events, early life stages, and reef development over time. These insights support adaptive management, transparent reporting, and powerful storytelling that connects science with communities, supporters, and decision-makers.

Sustainable restoration doesn’t end with infrastructure. CSI works closely with Nature Seychelles’ Reef Rescuers, providing hands-on training in coral reproductive processes and scientific documentation.

By building local capacity, the program ensures knowledge stays in the region and restoration efforts can continue, adapt, and grow well into the future.

This partnership demonstrates what’s possible when conservation organisations, scientists, and technology partners align around a shared goal: healthy, resilient coral reefs.

The Seychelles coral spawning program serves as:

  • A model for integrating coral reproduction into restoration

  • A testbed for imaging and monitoring innovation

  • A foundation for regional and international collaboration

CSI is proud to work alongside Nature Seychelles and we actively welcome new partners who share our commitment to science-led reef restoration.

Whether you are a conservation organisation, research institution, technology provider, or funder, we invite you to explore how collaboration can help scale coral restoration where it’s needed most.
